| Name: | Jean-Paul Beaubier |

Name: Jean-Paul Beaubier
Codename: Northstar
Age: 27
Powers: The most prevalent of Jean-Paul's powers is channeling the random atomic motion within the molecules of his physical form in one direction, better described as superhuman speed. He also has the ability, or durability, to resist temperature extremes (both hot and cold), as well as protecting his skin against the forces working against them when moving at high speed.
Personality & History: There's little about Jean-Paul that people think they don't know. What's to discover beneath the arrogant, haughty exterior, one hundred per cent professional? But they're only partly right. He's hardly a tender young man, full of sunshine and daisies, but the side of himself he puts on display -- goal-oriented and, yes, self-centered and all too self-satisfied -- isn't the whole picture. Being a mutant and a homosexual, he's learned to cultivate an exterior both untouched by general speculation and unworried by prejudices. The level of confidence he has is amplified for the public eye; he's never so sure of himself as when someone else is watching. This leaves people thinking he's both conceited and rude to the very core. Again: they're only seeing half the picture. But that's the half he wants them to see.
Jean-Paul has done a lot in his lifetime, his superspeed influencing the rate of his accomplishments as well as the motion of his body. He's been part of a revolutionary group, a medal-winning Olympic athlete, a member of Canada's Mutant Group Alpha Flight, an author and a successful businessman and, now, a teacher and a makeshift X-Man. His mind works as fast as his body does sometimes, which makes him quick as a whip in conversations, though he often does use that cleverness for the good of 'evil.' (Never let it be said Jean-Paul Beaubier let a straight line pass him by.) His English is impeccable, the sort of impeccable that nearly implies he's a very fast-learning foreigner. In other words, rarely ever in America can you find someone speaking with such flawless grammatical structure.
In the end, Jean-Paul is practical, intelligent, powerful and good-looking, and he knows it. His homosexuality doesn't define his character nor hinder his progress amongst bigots; neither do his mutant powers. There will never be a time Jean-Paul will deny the truth about himself: good or bad, though the majority of the world sees him embracing the good far more often than they see him grappling with the bad, if they ever see him grappling with the bad. (They probably won't.) By all means, coming to work in Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters should have just been one more feather in Jean-Paul's impressive cap.
So it makes absolutely no sense that he should fall so fast, so hard, and so completely inexplicably for Bobby Drake, throwing a veritable cog in the works of all Jean-Paul's plans.
